I'm down here at the cabinet shop with my buddy Terry Atika, building and development. We got a pretty cool project going on today, we're going to build some custom countertops for a home, it's being built over in North Carolina near Camp Lejeune. Semper Fi and what's really cool about these countertops is there, not there, not granite or marble or-or laminate they're going to be copper. Now this trend toward copper countertops is starting to get pretty popular and you're, starting to see it in a lot of high-end homes, but I think that the price of doing this is comparable with a lot of different other types of countertops. You would do so.
I don't think it ought to be reserved just for a custom upper end home. I think it'd be a nice accent and just about any home that you could put it in. It's not really hard to do today. What I hope to do is take some of the mystery out of how to put copper laminate on your countertops. So when you buy this copper, it comes in whatever length. You need young measure countertops. You can buy this copper in two-foot increments on the length and today we're using there are a gazillion different kinds of finishes today we're using one with a really nice kind of a blue patina to it one of the really cool things about using this.
Are you don't have to rebuild or buy new countertops if you have an existing countertop with a laminate, that's in pretty good shape? You can put this veneer. This copper veneer over top of it, to prove that yesterday we went out to the countertop shop and we bought some remnants. They had some pieces that you know it not been picked up or have been cut wrong. We brought them back to the shop and cut them to the length we needed and they've got laminate on them already, so we're just going to go right over top of them.
With this copper now you may have seen some they'll take an epoxy once the veneer, the copper veneer is on the countertop they'll, take an epoxy and pour It over the copper then, once they pour that epoxy over the copper veneer they'll, take a heat gun and blow it over that epoxy and it removes the bubbles and all that and it puts a kind of a really shiny finish on it. We're not going to do that today today, we're going to coat and seal this copper with lacquer comes from the manufacturer and what it'll do is it will put a really strong and durable finish on this. You won't have to worry about.
